BIRDSBORO, PA - Keystone Coalition For Advancing Sex Education is announcing full support for a proposal by the Reading School Board that would add a no-cost health clinic managed by Planned Parenthood and Access Matters.
This clinic will provide much needed safety and security to students at Reading High who are seeking reproductive education and care.
The teen pregnancy rate in Reading is three times the state average. The rate of sexually transmitted diseases and infections are steadily increasing among people ages 15 - 24 in Berks county, home of Reading High.
If members of the School Board care about student health and wellness, then they should stop postponing the vote and enthusiastically support this proposal.
It is vitally important that young people have access to comprehensive sex education. The Journal for Adolescent Health has found that young people who receive comprehensive sex education are 50% less likely to report a teen pregnancy than those who experienced abstinence only.
Furthermore, Keystone CASE urges pro-life protesters to support this initiative. When we educate our kids with medically accurate and unbiased comprehensive sex education we are lessening the possibility of unintended pregnancy which prevents abortion or late intervention.
